Donald Trump and the Watergate speedrun record

I have spent the last couple of days trying to write a post about the whole James Comey fiasco but things just keep happening. Just as I was sitting down to write this last night I bumbled onto a random Twitter retweeting this precious nugget from Generalissimo Trump:

“James Comey better hope there are no “tapes” of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”

No, Donald, no. Don't mention tapes. Richard Nixon, Donald. Also, if Comey has tapes then it means that whatever he leaks to the press has evidence behind it. That's called corroboration, Donald. Also, you don't know how quotation marks work.

I mean, its fascinating to watch. Like that bit in his statement where Trump declares thart Comey told him he wasn't under investigation in spite of Comey testifying in court under oath on television that investigations were under way. Even if those investigations aren't into Trump specifically they do exist but the orange moron honestly believes that he can just declare himself innocent whilst firing the man investigating him.

Even Nixon, for all this flaws, did not fire the FBI director investigating him. Of course, the difference is that Nixon was not an idiot. He was arrogant and over-confident and bent as a banana but he was no idiot. Trump is an idiot.

Its actually fascinating to watch him flailing around like this. He clearly thinks it should be over because he says its over, he's been reported to have been yelling at televisions because the news has the temerity to still be reporting on the situation. Hell, he's even aluded to incriminating tapes without any evidence they exist which just smacks of a guilty conscience.

Of course, whether or not it'll be enough for the Republican party to turn on him because it has to be them. They have the majority, they have to be the ones calling for impeachment and after all the things Trump has said and done that would have sunk another president or another candidate in a heartbeat who knows if this will even be the thing.

I mean, I remember when the “pussy grabbing” tape hit and his entire party turned on him for about a week. Maybe this'll be that, maybe this'll be the end of his presidency.

We can only hope.
